I can’t believe it’s been so long since I wrote anything. What a crazy few months it has been! First of all, some idiot drunk driver crashed her car into the front of our house, right into my office, and my life has been in chaos ever since. Insurance adjusters. Contractor estimates. Waiting for the paperwork to wind its way through the insurance system until finally a check came out the other end. Ever notice how quick insurance companies are to collect premiums but how SLOW they are when it comes to paying a claim?
Then comes actually getting the work done. More waiting for this and that. Now, almost 7 weeks to the day it happened, things are just about back to normal.
What’s the lesson in all this? Dunno … don’t buy a house at the end of a busy street? It wasn’t that busy when we bought it over 5 years ago. Anyway, I try not to focus on it (remember The Secret) and now that the inside repair work is done, that’s easier.
But I’m having a devil of a time concentrating on work. It started when the kids were on Spring Break a couple weeks ago. I had just finished a webinar with Ken McCarthy, part of the pre-System training he does with all faculty members. So I decided to take a week off and just hang out with them. Go to the mall, go for walks, talk. The next week the repairs started. Lots of banging, dust flying everywhere, people in and out of the house. No way to get any work done.
Now it’s 2 weeks later and the repairs are STILL going on and spring is in the air and I’m having a hard time concentrating. I am so grateful that if this had to happen, it happened when I was in the position to take off a month and hang out with my kids and tend to getting the house fixed. I can’t imagine trying to deal with this if I were working in an office somewhere outside of the home.
Anyway, I’m just rambling. Get back to work…
